Careers FAQs

How do I apply for a vacancy?

You’ll normally be asked to complete an application form and provide a comprehensive covering letter to help us understand why you want to work for us. Cognita does not have an online application process at present but specific details on how to apply will be provided for each vacancy.

What happens after i submit my application?

You’ll receive an email to confirm that we’ve received your application. We will then shortlist and if your application meets our criteria, we will invite you to attend a selection event.

The assessment depends on the role, but you may be asked to participate in some of the following:

  • a competency-based interview
  • ability testing
  • psychometric personality questionnaire
  • a presentation
  • a written test
  • a case study or role play
  • a lesson observation
  • deliver a “live” lesson

For some roles there may also be a second stage interview.

What is the selection process?

This is dependent on the post applied for and is specified in the candidate pack.

What qualifications are needed?

This is dependent on the position you apply for and the criteria of the job specification. If applicable, we will ask to see certificates at interview stage.

Can I apply if I don’t have a work permit?

Yes, the Company/School may be able to sponsor your work permit application provided that you meet the eligibility criteria pre-determined by the local authority in each country.

If English is not my first language, will I need to take an English test?

Applicants are not required to complete a formal English language test. Indeed, ability tests and psychometric personality tests can be completed in your mother tongue. However, a good level of verbal and written English is required.

Are there any checks I need to go through before being employed?

All successful applicants are required to provide two referees, with whom we will then make direct contact (one of these should be from your most recent employer). Background, health, criminal record, safeguarding and other local country authorisation checks will be verified as part of your conditional offer.

How long does the recruitment process take?

This will depend on the role and region. If you are successful at final interview, the time required to process an application is dependent on the receipt of satisfactory pre-employment checks.

When will I hear back from you?

You should hear from us within two weeks of the closing date as to whether or not you have been shortlisted.

Will I be informed if my application is unsuccessful?

Yes. We will contact you at each stage of the recruitment process to advise you of the outcome of your application.

If I am unsuccessful, will you give me feedback?

We do not give feedback at the shortlisting stage, but please contact us for individual feedback if you are unsuccessful after final interview.

How can I be kept informed of job vacancies at Cognita?

If you are interested in working for Cognita and would like to receive vacancy updates, please register your details with us here.

I have a disability. Can you accommodate my needs during the application and assessment process?

We are committed to making the recruitment process accessible to all. If you require a more individualised application process, please contact the HR department (details below) in the relevant region so we can better assess your needs.

Will having an unspent conviction prevent me from working at Cognita?

If you have convictions inconsistent with your appointment by the Company, the Company reserves the right to withdraw its offer of employment or, in the event that employment has commenced, terminate your employment by giving the minimum period of statutory notice applicable to your employment.
